Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Landfill

The Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) landfill provides for disposal of EPD approved municipal solid waste. The MSW landfill is on a 202 acre site with 56 acres currently permitted for solid waste disposal. The existing MSW airspace life expectancy of 12 years will increase with the permitting and construction of new cells anticipated to begin January 2008.

In operation since 1992, the MSW landfill receives 250 tons per day from within Camden County, plus 150 tons per day of imported solid waste. There is an active collection and curbside recycling program for household recyclables. Crushed concrete, metals, appliances, used oil, lead acid batteries and tires are also recycled.

The MSW landfill site hosts an annual community fishing tournament in June, civic/school group tours, and bird watching tours. Citizens grow vegetables on plots at the Tom Green Casey Memorial Gardens with the landfill providing free compost and water.

The MSW landfill operation has been a total enterprise fund since 1992, funded from user fees.
