At their August 4, 2020, regular meeting teleconference, the Camden County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of two Custom AEV Type 1 Units. These are the first two of the five total new ambulances that are included in SPLOST VIII.
“We continue to be thankful to the Board of Commissioners for their support of Camden County Fire Rescue,” said Camden County Fire Rescue Chief Terry Smith. “Their commitment to upgrading our ambulances through SPLOST funds help us better serve the citizens of Camden County.”
These new ambulances are part of the over $2.6 million in new buildings, equipment, and apparatus in the last four (4) years. Since 2017, Camden County Fire Rescue has added one (1) new tanker truck, three (3) new engines, one (1) new firehouse, one (1) remounted ambulance, and nearly $500,000 in equipment and tools. The two new ambulances are expected to join the fleet in December 2020 and total over $496,000.
Camden County voters approved the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) VIII in March 2019. This one-cent sales tax is paid by all residents and visitors that purchase goods in Camden County. SPLOST VIII began collection in July 2019 and concludes in June 2025.
