[ARCHIVED] Joint Message from Camden County Schools and Government Agencies

Camden County Board of Commissioners, Camden County Sheriff’s Office, and Camden County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) officials are partnering with the cities of Kingsland, St. Marys, and Woodbine, along with Camden County Schools, Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay Emergency Management for Hurricane Michael preparations.

After careful consideration of the latest forecast for the coastal area and an abundance of caution, Officials have decided to close all Camden County, City of Kingsland, City of St. Marys, and City of Woodbine offices, in addition to Camden County Schools for Thursday, October 11, 2018. The safety of our community is the first priority.

According to the current forecast track, Camden County’s greatest impacts from Hurricane Michael are expected to take place overnight tonight, Wednesday, October 10, 2018, and through the morning hours on Thursday, October 11, 2018. Hurricane Michael is a historic storm, making landfall as a Category 4 on the Florida panhandle this afternoon. Although we still expect the impacts to be minor in Camden County, the effects of this storm are still unpredictable. As conditions continue to change, the public is asked to stay off of roadways until the weather improves.

Once Hurricane Michael has moved away from our area, we ask that you allow officials time to assess damages, verify county infrastructure, and address issues that may be hazardous.  At this time, it is anticipated that both government offices and schools will be open with regular hours on Friday, October 12, 2018.
